WTF Friday - as anyone who's been following the Tome Series might guess, this day is for everyone's favorite bandit, Scorpio. Of course, this will also extend to the other rogues out there, the thieves and spies. A day for tricks and traps!

Insane Saturday - a day for the crazy, insane, mad and generally mentally unstable. These are the ones you don't want to find yourself alone with on a dark night. Let's delve into psychosis in all its dark manifestations.

It's Magick Monday on my FB and I decided to share one of Morgan's best scenes from "The Seers' War: Part One - The Weaving of the Web".

There was no great rush of a firestorm, like she’d expected. Nor an explosion of flame that would kill her in an instant, as she’d hoped. Instead there was a faint crackle as small tongues of fire leaped from wood piece to wood piece like a horse munching grass, first one, then another, moving on before the first was even fully devoured. Smoke began to spiral upward, thin at first, then in wafting clouds making her eyes sting. Coughing violently, she turned her head side to side as far as the rope around her neck would permit, gasping for air. The thought occurred to her that the smoke would probably kill her long before the flames even touched her.


She changed her mind when she felt the heat, burning and only growing hotter as the flames moved around the outer perimeter of the pyre. The fire hadn’t reached her yet and already a scream was building in her throat. The crowd continued to intone and cheer until the north side of the city exploded in a shower of crumbled stone and flame. Then the chant and applause became screams of panicked horror as the Neidr Brenin descended on the city. 


Rising above the tallest towers, it bared fangs as long as three men that dripped its deadly venom. The stench of the beast rolled out from it, scorching the city and anyone caught in its path. Fire spewed from its gaping maw, charring stone and incinerating bodies. It’s black scales shimmered like the cloak of Death, the white mark on its head shaped like a crown, a beacon through the smoke and dust thrown into the air as it crashed through the city walls.


Panic reigned as people fled for their lives, ducking the rain of sharp debris and flames. The waters of the fountains and the nearby lake fouled and the fruits in the trees rotted in the monster’s presence. The grasses and green things around the city burning away. Chaos ruled with a heavy hand.


Morgan saw none of this. Her head flung back in the throes of a trance, her entire body convulsed as purple flames leaped and danced in her violet eyes and traced the lines of the tattoo on her forehead. With her Sight, she watched the great serpent crash over Prince Artur and his knights, watched it slither through the city. Its throat held high above the ground, its lethal gaze remained fixed on Caer Ddraig.


It burst into the square and the sorceress turned her own lethal gaze upon it. Jolting herself out of her trance, calm washed over her as she snapped her head around and faced the beast. Feeling the magick in her blood surge with every beat of her heart, she was insensible to the violent, painful reaction of the abaxus fastened about her wrists and ankles. She didn't feel her blood pouring down her hands and feet, the growing flames inching ever nearer to her flesh or the smoke stinging her eyes and her lungs.


Drawing more and greater eldritch energy up from the earth Herself, she channeled it into the same power in her blood. Dark purple fire burst around her, incinerating her rope confines. She walked away from the stake, her bare feet stepping on sharp wood and fire with equal unmindfulness. A faint wind picked up, blowing the Neidr Brenin’s noxious stench over her. Her long, wavy black hair, the skirts of her tattered dress, the length of the Bruid’s black cape wrapped about her body all billowed out behind her.


The serpent loomed over her and she gazed back, purple flames still dancing in her violet eyes. The tongues of fire tracing the lines of the Vesica Piscis bisected by a sword and wreathed in holy thorn faintly tattooed on her forehead burned brightly.


“These people are under my protection, Neidr Brenin, and I will not let you have them.”


One hand still holding the cape closed over her breast, her other hand moved languidly before her, tracing swirling circular patterns of flame in the air. The symbols glowed with white heat and dark purple power, burning brighter and brighter until they formed an immense shield between the monster and the castle. The Neidr Brenin roared in angry frustration and tried to crash through the barrier only to have its skin charred from its body.


Recoiling with a hiss of pain, it tried to go around the shield. Morgan made a closing motion with her hand and the fence of light closed in about the serpent, scorching its flesh, holding it prisoner but not killing it. Reacting to her drawing on her power, the abaxus manacles and shackles grated into her skin, piercing muscle, tendon and bone, numbing her hands and feet. They began to burn as they tore her flesh and the pain was beginning to make her falter.


Her calm breath became ragged. Exhaustion darkened the edges of her vision. The Neidr Brenin railed against its confines and she could feel the bonds holding it beginning to break. Trying to refocus, the purple flames in her eyes beginning to wither, she drew as much power as she could manage until she could draw no more and flung her hand toward the monster with a defiant yell.


Flames exploded from her hand to engulf the screaming serpent, burning it to ash as it swathed it in magickal fire. It was the last thing Morgan saw before her world turned black and she collapsed.

On the topic of health, I think I'm finally starting to kick this infection. Still have it a bit, but I can now function somewhat without my nose running like a faucet. A vast improvement, let me tell you!


This means I've also been able to work on my writing with some degree of coherence and it's coming along rather nicely. Now that I'm back to work, it all just comes back to a time issue. I wish I had more of it to work on "Rahasya". Over my last two nights off, I've written 8 pages. Not as much as I would have liked, but better than nothing.


As the saying goes, 'quality over quantity' and I have to say, I'm rather pleased with how it's turning out. So! Onward and upward and all that. With a little luck, I may actually get a little more written today before I decide to catch some Zzzzs.
